【Abstract】 Toni Morrison is one of the most outstanding novelists on the literary stage in the contemporary world. Differing from those writers who make their efforts on the revelation of economic and political oppression imposed on the black people, she focuses more attention on the inner world of black women. Her double identities as a black and a woman provide her with great advantages to penetrate deeply into the hearts of black women and reveal their psychological misery, struggle and distortion under the oppression of racism and sexism. This thesis is an analysis of Morrison’s three well-claimed novels: The Bluest Eye, Sula and Beloved, from the point of view of feminist criticism and black feminist criticism. Through the analysis, the thesis tries to reveal Toni Morrison’s attitude towards three primary female issues: the quest for black female self-identity, the role of black women in the conservation and passing-down of black culture and traditions and the black mother-daughter relationship.
