【摘要】 《红楼梦》是中国乃至世界文学宝库中的一颗璀璨的明珠。作为一部百科全书式的中国古典名著,《红楼梦》是中国封建社会和文化的缩影,其中蕴含着丰富的生活、社会和文化内容。作者运用鲜活的语言将这些内容展现在读者面前。作者的语言特色之一就是运用了大量的文化意象,生动形象。本文通过《红楼梦》杨、霍两译本比较,探讨了文化意向的两种翻译策略的双重性和优先性。笔者认为,尽管两种策略都有其合理性,但异化策略能够使译作保留原作审美特色,而且能够抵御文化霸权和侵略,更好地促进国际文化交流。本文首先介绍文化意象这一概念,概述其表现形式和主要特点,并着重指出“文化意象的错位”现象。正是这种现象的存在,导致国内外译者在处理《红楼梦》中的文化意象时采取了不同的策略。本文的第二、三部分回顾了此前国内外学者对“归化”和“异化”所持的不同观点,然后举例说明在处理《红楼梦》中的文化意象时,杨译本主要采用异化策略,而霍译本则主要运用归化策略。在第四部分,笔者简单论述了《红楼梦》文化意象翻译策略的双重性,即:两种策略都有其存在的价值;两者相互并存,相辅相成。本文的第五部分从文本类型和功能、后殖民主义、文化交际、美学以及读者在阅读中的能动性等视角展开论述,论证了在翻译《红楼梦》中的文化意象时,异化策略应具有优先的地位。笔者最后建议:在翻译《红楼梦》中的文化意象时,宜坚持以异化策略为主,如有可能尽量异化;另一方面以归化作为补充,从而避免“硬译”、“死译”,弄巧成拙。更多还原

【Abstract】 Hong Lou Meng is among the greatest classics in the literary treasury of the world. As the epitome of the feudal Chinese society, it boasts of rich and enormous life and cultural contents, extraordinary depth of thoughts, highly skilled and consummate writing skills, and unique artistic and aesthetic values. All this, however, poses great challenges to translators. In terms of cultural elements, quite different translating methods are employed to render them.This paper is an attempt at exploring the validity of the strategies for translating cultural images in Hong Lou Meng with reference to Ys’ and H’s versions. To begin with, the concept of “cultural image” is presented in terms of its definition, forms of expression and characteristics, and the phenomenon of “discrepancy of cultural images” is illustrated through examples. Then, in Part 2, the two main translating strategies, namely, foreignization and domestication, are briefly reviewed and, in Part 3, Ys’ and H’s main strategies for translating cultural images in Hong Lou Meng, are exemplified and compared. Next, Part 4 justifies the duality of the two strategies, and in Part 5, a holistic investigation is conducted to demonstrate the precedence of foreignization to domestication in the translation of cultural images in Hong Lou Meng. This paper concludes with a general principle proposed for translating cultural images in Hong Lou Meng: Adopting foreignization as the main strategy and domestication as the supplementary. On the one hand, we had better employ foreignization if at all possible rather than rejecting it without trying; on the other hand, we can retreat tactically to domestication in too demanding cases so as not to outsmart ourselves.更多还原
