【摘要】 此篇论文主要讨论了语言和文化的关系以及文化意识在外语学习中的必要性。在中国八十年代之前，外语教学基本上是不涉及到文化教学的。但八十年代后期，在许国璋老前辈，胡文仲教授等的推动下，文化意识在外语教学中的重要性在外语教师和外语学习者中开始引起足够的重视。 本篇论文讨论了中西文化的种种区别，并追溯了其渊源。中西文化的区别首先表现在，西方文化的个体主义和东方文化的集体主义。其次是西方文化以物为本的外倾性商业文化，而中国文化是以人为本的内倾性农耕文化。 东／中西文化的种种区别在外语教学中的作用更是本篇论文的主题。文化因素在外语学习中的作用更是不可忽略。在21世纪的今天，中国即将成为的WTO成员国之一的时机，外国语的掌握，各民族文化的了解更显得必不可少。人和人之间的沟通，国和国之间的了解，民族和民族之间的团结也是我们这些身为教师不可推卸的责任。 希望本篇论文能给感兴趣的同行以及外语学习的爱好者们有点帮助和启发。更多还原

【Abstract】 The research of the relationship between Language and Culture has become an important topic in the circle of foreign languages learning since late 1980s in China.This paper discusses the cultural differences between East (mainly China) and West in several aspects based on several theories. Two cultural differences are discussed here: one is individualism vs. collectivism between the western culture and eastern culture; the other is extrovert coastal-trading vs. introvert continental-farming. And then some specific examples distinguishing their differences are presented as followed afterwards.The structure of culture is illustrated and nature of language is analyzed in detail based on some theories, too. And the close relationship between culture and language teaching is also discussed in every detail in the paper and the situation of foreign language teaching is reported in some other countries as well.The purpose of this paper is to tell foreign language teachers/instructors and students/learners that culture plays an important role in learning a foreign language 梑oth native language culture and target language culture. So we should have cultural awareness in foreign language teaching or learning in order to master a foreign language. As an English teacher myself for over 15 years in college, I hope my paper will be of some help to learners interested in this topic.更多还原
