【Abstract】 Zuo Zongtang’s family letters reflect an ethical thought which integrates the Confucian tradition of self-cultivation with the practical spirit of the Huxiang school. Its core ideas focus on three dimensions: in the aspect of personal cultivation, they emphasize setting “lofty aspirations and clarifying virtues” as well as “reverence, prudence, and self-restraint”; in the aspect of family education, they take “preserving the family tradition of farming and reading” as the core, and practice “frugality and broad benevolence”, while strictly discouraging extravagance; and in the aspect of national responsibility, they uphold the commitment to “repay the nation above and relieve the common people below”. Zuo Zongtang’s family instructions bear profound contemporary significance. They help individuals achieve self-perfection and foster fine virtues through moral cultivation; in family education,they highlight the responsibility of parental guidance; and in social ethos, they highlight the cultivation of familial and national commitment.更多还原
