The "Terminological Revolution" in Virtual Sports: Subjective Dilemmas and the Chinese Solution
【Abstract】 In the era when digital technology is reshaping the forms of sports, the emergence of "virtual sports" has triggered a profound "terminological revolution ". This study, based on the perspective of Marxist historical materialism, defines the "terminological revolution" as an overall methodological approach to revealing the essence of the new production mode. By analyzing the covert expansion mechanism of capital logic in the field of virtual sports, the study points out that capital, through the construction of terms such as "digital embodiment" and "algorithmic competition",reconfigures human biological bodies into quantifiable data assets, alienates sports activities as "digital labor",and thereby seizes the "surplus value of data". This infinite extension of the capital reproduction logic inevitably leads to deep existential dilemmas for human beings as sports subjects: their bodies are "mirrored" and "instrumentalized",and perceptual subjectivity is stripped away; the sports spirit gradually becomes hollow in symbolic consumption; and the blind worship of algorithmic authority further gives rise to "digital fetishism",all of which together constitute the logical singularity of life politics in the intelligent era. In response to these dilemmas, the study proposes a Chinese solution for the development of virtual sports: advocating transcending the one-dimensional logic of capital and establishing the attribute of "digital competition public sphere "for virtual sports; using the "terminological revolution" as the methodological support to construct a Chinese autonomous knowledge system in the field of virtual sports, and ultimately guiding virtual sports to return to its fundamental destination of serving the "all-round development of human beings".
