Global Works, Intermediality and Cultural Communication
【Abstract】 In the cross-cultural and transmedial dissemination of literary works, the source text, its translations, and various intermedial adaptations collectively constitute a grand “global work.” This network, composed of diverse elements, continuously enriches the meanings and values of literary works. A Doll’s House and Journey to the West serve as quintessential examples, both having attained enduring vitality through creation and dissemination across time and space. Similarly, the video game Black Myth: Wukong leverages cutting-edge digital technologies to enhance storytelling and player experience while simultaneously strengthening the international communication capacity of Chinese culture. Intermedial creation and dissemination, underpinned by new media technologies, are set to play an increasingly pivotal role in the process of literary canonization. Within this context, it is essential to deepen theoretical reflection and promote the construction of an autonomous knowledge system for intermedial narrative and global work studies. By re-evaluating and recognizing the canonization and contemporaneity of global works, we can gain a profound understanding of their practical values and implications for the future.
