【Abstract】 The Story of Xijing is grounded in the clash between traditional cultural values and modern civilization,exploring the tension between the continuation of cultural spirit and contemporary societal development. Through contrasts of wealth and poverty among different characters,differing survival statuses of individuals in rural and urban settings,and generational value conflicts,the work highlights a spiritual crisis triggered by the erosion of traditional culture. By depicting emblematic images such as the Tang locust tree and ancient crape myrtle tree,the author reveals the conflicts and choices rooted in cultural values. The distinctions and interactions between the mountain village and urban village imply the substantial costs required to transition from tradition to modernity. Chen Yan integrates elements such as the Qinqiang Opera language,the didactic philosophy of traditional opera,and the theme of “encouraging education” into The Story of Xijing,achieving innovative adaptation and creative integration of traditional cultural characters. Through the lens of the individual destiny history of the Luo Tianfu family,Chen Yan epitomizes epochal transformations under the collision of rural and urban civilizations,while asserting adherence to traditional cultural values as a potent remedy for societal spiritual crises,articulated through an optimistic and compassionate stance.更多还原
