Research progress on the effect of drugs on bone reconstruction and the influence on the movement speed of orthodontic teeth
【Abstract】 Bone reconstruction is the core biological process of orthodontic tooth movement, and its dynamic balance directly affects the efficiency of alveolar bone resorption and deposition. External forces can trigger a signal cascade reaction that is crucial for bone reconstruction, activate multiple cellular signaling pathways, and cause local bone resorption and deposition. On the pressure side, this process helps the teeth move. On the tension side, it promotes healing. Among them, hormones, systemic influencing factors, cyclic adenosine monophosphate, specific cytokines such as interleukin-1,colony-stimulating factor, calcium, collagenase and prostaglandins, etc., are all key components of biological regulation necessary for bone reconstruction. Drugs that can affect osteoclasts and regulate bone reconstruction may have a regulatory effect on orthodontic tooth movement. This article systematically reviews the effects of drugs on dental bone reconstruction by regulating key pathways of bone metabolism(such as osteoclast differentiation factor [RANKL]/osteoclast inhibitor [OPG],Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway), and explores their potential regulatory mechanisms on orthodontic tooth movement. It comprehensively reviews the existing research evidence on this topic. Clarify the potential directions for future research.
