【Abstract】 Objective To analyse the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the prevention and control of imported malaria in Guangzhou City, and to provide a reference for informing the prevention and control of imported malaria in the event of emerging infectious diseases occurrence. Methods Data on imported malaria cases in Guangzhou City from 2017 to 2022 were collected. The characteristics and survey and disposal of malaria epidemic were analyzed. The Chi-square test, Fisher exact probability method, rank-sum test and Brown-Mood test were used for statistical testing. Results A total of 602 imported malaria cases were reported in Guangzhou City from 2017 to 2022,the average age was 39.79±10.95 years old.The majority of cases were Chinese nationals(480 cases, 79.73%),males(531 cases, 88.21%),and labor workers(313 cases, 51.99%),and the main type of malaria was falciparum malaria(526 cases, 87.38%).Two hundred and seventy-four imported malaria cases were reported after the COVID-19 epidemic(2020-2022),a decrease of 16.46% compared to the period before COVID-19 epidemic(2017-2019).The differences in the percentage of malaria cases before and after the COVID-19 epidemic based on gender, age, nationality, occupation and place of region of cases were statistically significant(χ~2=19.31,28.73,87.74,24.13,P<0.001).After the COVID-19 epidemic, the distributions and median on distribution of onset-preliminary diagnosis time intervals of malaria cases, as well as investigation and disposition rate of epidemic spot within 7 days were better than those before the COVID-19 epidemic, with a statistically significant(W/Z=61 269.00,32.51,P<0.001).Conclusion The measures implemented in Guangzhou City during the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic help to strengthen the implementation of the "1-3-7" job specification and effectively stop the transmission and diffusion of imported malaria epidemics.
