The "Practice-Reflection" Experience of PGCE in the UK and Its Practical Implications——Taking the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, and the University of London as Examples
【Abstract】 The Postgraduate Certificate in Education(PGCE) in the UK is a significant pathway for training primary and secondary school teachers. It centers on the core concept of "practice-reflection",which is reflected in its institutional framework, curriculum design, and teaching methods. Since the 1980s,the PGCE has gradually shifted from an academic-oriented course to one that emphasizes practical teaching experiences to cultivate students’ awareness and ability of reflection, integrating theoretical knowledge with realworld scenarios. Through various activity-based teaching methods in universities, the PGCE focuses on school-based teaching practices, such as classroom observation, teaching experience, and teaching research to enhance interns’ professional judgment and teaching skills. The PGCE programs at Cambridge University,Oxford University, and the University of London, which are based on standards, serve as models for teacher education in the UK and have significant demonstration effects. These programs’ curricula and teaching methods are typical in reflecting the characteristics of teacher education in the UK. The "practicereflection" oriented teacher education logic in the UK has practical significance for optimizing teacher education system in universities and improving the training of master’s degree candidates in education.
