【Abstract】 Sheli archery rituals were an important component of the ritual and music system of the Western Zhou state, as well as a significant part of ancient Chinese military culture. By analyzing relevant records to archery rituals in Western Zhou bronze inscriptions, this paper identifies three main characteristics of these rituals: competitiveness, militariness, and recreational aspects. Archery rituals served important social functions for the Western Zhou aristocracy, during occasions such as promotion and conferment of titles, recommendation of subordinates, selection of military talents, assessment of moral conduct, and demonstration of archery skills.更多还原
