【Abstract】 Marshall McLuhan’s classic work Understanding Media earned worldwide acclaim for its prophetic insights,yet most previous scholarship has focused on his forward-looking notions,such as "the medium is the message" the "information age" and the "global village",while paying little attention to his reinterpretation of the Narcissus myth from ancient Greece.McLuhan contends that technology functions as an extension of human faculties,but simultaneously entails a form of self-amputation,plunging humanity into a state of narcissus-like numbness and a crisis of subjectivity through fascination with its own technological mirror image.In today’s era of rapid advances in artificial intelligence,humanoid robotics,and genetic editing,humanity-both individually and collectively—has been extending itself and fabricating mirror images to an unprecedented degree,thereby confronting the ultimate question of what it means to be human in the future.McLuhan argues that only through the resistance afforded by art and the humanistic spirit can humankind rediscover its authentic self and the meaning of existence amidst the overwhelming tide of technological development.更多还原
