【Abstract】 As one of the core concepts of Confucianism, “benevolence” (Ren) possesses distinct practical characteristics. However, the concrete practice of “pursuing benevolence” often manifested as complex moral entanglements throughout history. The issue of Boyi in the Analects serves as a notable example. “Biography of Boyi” in the Records of the Historian continues to explore this issue, transforming it into a reflection on the Way of Heaven(Tiandao), thereby clarifying the intricate relationship between the practice of benevolent principles and specific historical contexts: history itself does not provide a guarantee of meaning for moral actions; instead, it requires narrators of history to rely on moral strength to justify acts of “pursuing benevolence”. Confucius’ Spring and Autumn Annals employed editorial methods to praise good and condemn evil, shaping the moral consciousness of classical Chinese historiography. The Records of the Historian inherited the spirit of the Spring and Autumn Annals, establishing a paradigm for Chinese-style historical narrative.更多还原
