【Abstract】 James Irving Crump is a renowned American sinologist. He dedicated his whole life in studying Chinese vernacular literature, persuasive literature and Yuan dramas, particularly exceling in Chan-kuo Ts’ e-a famous Chinese classics, which earns high acclaim within the Western sinological circles. From 1953 to 1960, he focused primarily on the research of Chan-kuo Ts’ e and achieved remarkable academic results; from 1960 to 1970, he immersed himself in the translation of Chan-kuo Ts’ e, the first time for the whole text translation. He emerged as a leading figure in the Western sinological study of Chan-kuo Ts’ e. Following the translation concepts such as re-creation, paratext and thick translation, he has successfully promoted the dissemination of Chan-kuo Ts’ e in the western world and greatly enhanced cultural exchanges and communications between China and the West.更多还原
