Effects of compound additives on growth performance, body size development and plasma biochemical parameters of Hu sheep
【Abstract】 To investigate the effects of daily ration supplemented with compound additives on growth performance, body size development, and plasma nutritional metabolites in Hu sheep, a single-factor randomized block test design was adopted with two dietary treatments: a blank control group and a compound additive group(10 g/(head·d)). Sixty 2-month-old healthy Hu sheep, with birth date and body weight close to each other were selected and divided into a total of 6 pens(10 lambs per pen). The 6 pens were randomly allocated to two treatments, with one ram pen and two ewe pens for each treatment. Each pen was equipped with a feed trough containing nutrient licking bricks for ad libitum consumption. The results showed that compound additives showed no significant effect on daily weight gain and body size development(P>0.05), tended to decrease dry matter intake(0.05≤P<0.10). Compared to the control group, the additive group exhibited marginally higher concentration of total plasma protein(P<0.05), while demonstrating significantly lower plasma albumin and glucose levels(P<0.05), along with significantly elevated globulin concentration(P<0.05). No significant difference was observed on plasm urea nitrogen and calcium content between different treatment groups(P>0.05). The compound additives showed higher feed cost of each kg body weight gain and lower profit than control group. Above all, after supplementing nutrient licking bricks, the compound additives containing yeast and amino acid has no significant effect on improving the growth performance of Hu sheep, although certain plasma biochemical parameters showed modest improvements. The current formula needs further optimization.
