【Abstract】 Liu Yizheng’s Zhongguo wenhua shi(The History of Chinese Culture),compiled around 1919,emerged during the fervor of the New Culture Movement and the reflections on Western civilization triggered by the First World War.As a foundational work in the discipline of Chinese cultural history,this book not only responds to the ideological dilemma of the era between “wholesale Westernization" and “the worship of Confucius and the restoration of ancient traditions" but also presents a systematic defense and reinterpretation of the value of Chinese culture.By exploring the connection between the author’s academic aspirations and the historical context,tracing the origin,evolution,and dissemination of various editions,and analyzing its distinctive focus on “rites" as the core,its innovative structure that combines the outline format with cultural periodization,as well as its pioneering role in disciplinary construction,this article shows that the academic significance of Zhongguo wenhua shi lies not only in establishing the basic paradigm for writing cultural history,but also in demonstrating firm cultural confidence amid the interplay of Eastern and Western cultures.It offers a model that integrates historical depth with practical concern for understanding and interpreting traditional Chinese culture.更多还原
