【Abstract】 This paper traces the roots of the contemporary waste in the capitalist overproduction that monopolized also architecture since the second half of the 20th century. It argues that only a reduction of building production can contribute to substantially mitigate the dramatic impact on our climate and on our planet. Looking at history, it shows that good architecture has always been intelligently parsimonious. We must build less, only when really necessary, and reuse as much as possible; and when we build, we must build in a durable way.
