数字技术与绿色技术融合的减碳效应研究:新质生产力的微观实现机制
The Carbon Reduction Effects of Digital-green Technology Convergence:The Micro-level Mechanism of New Quality Productive Forces
【Abstract】 Against the background of the“dual carbon”(carbon peaking and carbon neutrality) goals, green development has become a core strategic direction for China’s high-quality economic growth. In January 2024, General Secretary Xi Jinping clearly stated that green development constitutes the essential characteristic of high-quality development, and that new quality productive forces are inherently green in nature. This assertion provides strategic guidance for understanding the green connotation of new quality productive forces and achieving the “dual carbon” goals. Characterized by high technology, high efficiency, and high quality, new quality productive forces rely on low-carbon technological innovation to drive the transformation of economic development from high-carbon to low-carbon, reshape the structure of productive forces, and promote sustainable development. In this context, accelerating the coordinated development of digitalization and greening has become a key pathway for cultivating new quality productive forces. On the one hand, green technological innovation serves as a cornerstone in the construction of a system for green productive forces. On the other hand, digital technologies, distinguished by their high innovativeness, broad applicability, and significant influence, are increasingly recognized as the primary driver of the transformation of productive forces. The convergence of digital and green technologies (“digital-green” technology convergence) represents a crucial lever and a prominent manifestation of qualitative changes in productive forces. In this context, this paper investigates the impact and underlying mechanisms of “digital-green” technology convergence on enterprise carbon emissions, aiming to provide theoretical support and policy insights for achieving the “dual carbon” goals.By matching firm-level information from the China Tax Survey Data(2008-2016) with finely granulated patent data from the Incopat database, this paper employs co-classification analysis of patents to measure the degree of “digitalgreen” technology convergence at the enterprise level. The empirical results reveal a significant carbon reduction effect associated with such technological convergence. Mechanism analysis indicates that the convergence reduces corporate carbon emissions through three pathways: the optimization of energy structure, substitution of production factors, and enhancement of energy efficiency. Among various convergence modes, combining digital and energy technologies yields the strongest carbon reduction. From the perspective of enterprise types, promoting the “digital-green” technologies convergence in large enterprises is a crucial measure for achieving carbon reduction targets. Moreover, the carbon reduction effects of this technology convergence demonstrate significant spillover effects across industries.Based on the above findings, this paper proposes the following policy implications. Firstly, further targeted efforts should be made to promote new quality productive forces centered on “digital-green” technology convergence, fully leveraging its pivotal role in achieving the “dual carbon” goals. Secondly, policy interventions should prioritize large-scale enterprises as key entry points for deepening the “digital-green” technology convergence. Thirdly, greater emphasis should be placed on advancing the deep convergence of digital and energy technologies, adhering to the principle of green and intelligent development in the energy sector. This paper makes three major contributions. Firstly, this paper constructs a firm-level metric for “digital-green” technology convergence, quantitatively assessing its carbon mitigation effects. Through empirical evidence, it validates the green attributes of new quality productive forces, thereby enriching the theoretical framework. Secondly, this paper extends existing research on the relationship between digital technologies and carbon emissions by focusing on the role of technology convergence. By measuring the degree of integration between digital and green technologies using firm-level patent data, this paper highlights how combined technological adoption yields more substantial emission reductions than the use of digital technologies alone. Finally, employing the logarithmic mean Divisia index(LMDI) decomposition method, this paper systematically identifies three key mechanisms through which “digital-green” technology convergence influences carbon emissions-energy structure optimization, factor substitution, and energy efficiency improvement, thereby enriching the theoretical framework linking technological progress with carbon emissions and providing theoretical support and practical guidance for achieving the goal of carbon peaking.
