【Abstract】 Amidst the backdrop of swift progress, the traditional settlements within the Chongqing section of Chuanjiang River Basin, recognized as vital conduits of cultural heritage, are encountering critical preservation challenges. ArcGIS10.8 software was deployed to dissect the spatial arrangement of these villages and to scrutinize their interconnections with elements such as waterways and thoroughfares. The geographical detector was utilized to quantify the impact of each element on the spatial layout of traditional settlements, and an assessment was conducted on the feasibility of establishing a heritage corridor along Chuanjiang River. The findings indicate that the traditional villages in the Chongqing portion of Chuanjiang River Basin exhibit a pattern of "broad scattering with localized clustering." A significant number of these villages are situated in the vicinity of rivers, benefiting from accessible transportation and predominantly found on the lower-lying, gentle slopes. The upper reaches of Chuanjiang River have been identified as having a higher suitability for the development of a heritage corridor. Drawing from the analysis, we propose a tiered conservation strategy for these traditional villages, with the objective of enhancing the safeguarding and continuation of historical and cultural legacies and advancing the rural revitalization agenda in Chongqing.
