A brief update on imidazoline receptor characterization and subclassification was provided Functionally and pharmacologically, the relation between this receptor and α 2 adrenoceptor was approached . The pharmacological mechanisms of the two receptors subclasses (I 1,I 2)were illuminated with the agents having selectivity. Several endogenous ligands that bind to imidazoline receptors were also discussed.
