【Abstract】 This article focuses on the pivotal role that Sil-Metropole system has played in the development of Hong Kong cinema over the past 75 years. At the industrial level, Sil-Metropole system has promoted the institutionalization and modernization of the Hong Kong film industry through the production of Mandarin and Cantonese films, co-production mechanisms, and the construction of exhibition systems. In terms of aesthetic construction, Sil-Metropole films have showcased a dual emphasis on commercial and humanistic aesthetics through realistic themes, genre aesthetics, and opera performances. On the cultural level, Sil-Metropole system has been a stronghold of left-wing cultural practice, while also employing cinematic texts to carry the identity, memory, and emotions of Hong Kong people, maintaining local cultural identity in contemporary “Hong Kong-flavored” creations. By delineating both the vertical development and horizontal influence of the Sil-Metropole system, this article presents its historical contributions and cultural values as a significant force in the Hong Kong film industry.更多还原
