Association between BMI and keloid
【Abstract】 Objective: To determine the association between body mass index(BMI) and keloid. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 395 keloid patients treated in our dermatology department from October 2022 to October 2023, with a control group of 790 healthy individuals during the same period. Results: 53.67%(212 cases) of patients had an above-normal BMI, which was higher than the 47.59% in the control group(P<0.05). In male keloid patients, 63.21% had an above-normal BMI, which was higher than the 52.85% in the control group(P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the above-normal BMI rate between female patients and the control group(P>0.05). There was no statistically significant differences in the above-normal BMI rate among different types and sizes of keloids(P>0.05). Conclusion: Men with a higher BMI are more likely to develop keloids, and the classification of skin lesions and the size of the lesion are unrelated to BMI.
