【Abstract】 Freshman seminar is a small class seminar course designed for freshmen. The article takes the course "Material Surface Functionalization of Materials and Innovative Life" as an example. In the teaching process, it combines the aerospace characteristics of Harbin Institute of Technology and the scientific research direction of teachers, integrates engineering application cases of surface functionalization of materials, introduces cutting-edge industry development content, cultivates new students’ innovative consciousness, scientific spirit, critical thinking and academic expression ability, and leads students to conduct scientific research as early as possible.
