【Abstract】 The Shuangta site is on an east-west oriented ridge north of the Third Group of Shuangta Village,Deshun Mongol Ethnic Township,Taobei District,Baicheng City,Jilin Province. From August to October 2007,a joint team from the Research Center for Chinese Frontier Archaeology at Jilin University and the Jilin Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology conducted a rescue excavation on the site’s western part, where ancient burials had been exposed. The excavated remains spanned three periods, with the third period revealing 25 late Bronze Age burials and one ash pit. These burials were positioned just beneath the topsoil, extending into the second stratigraphic layer of grayish-black sandy soil or yellow sandy sterile subsoil. The burials were arranged in rows oriented southwest to northeast, and none intersected with each other. Most tombs were vertical pit graves with rounded corners, either rectangular or narrow trapezoidal in shape. The burials included 10 graves with a single individual, five graves with two individuals, two graves with three individuals, and two graves containing human sacrifices. In undisturbed or unlooted tombs, the occupants were in an extended supine position with heads pointing to the northwest.Grave goods were sparse, typically consisting of everyday ceramic vessels such as hu-vases,guanr jars,andbo-bowls placed near the head.Small bronze, stone, and shell ornaments, were located near the head, neck, chest, and waist, while tools and weapons, including bronze knives, bronze awls, bone arrowheads, and bow tips, were found near the waist or upper limbs. The characteristics of these burials—including their forms, orientations, spatial distribution, burial practices, burial styles, and combinations of grave goods—are consistent with those observed at the Zhuanchang and Zhandou cemeteries in Pingyang,Tailai,Heilongjiang Province. These burials are tentatively dated to the early to middle Warring States period and are attributed to the Hanshu culture(previously referred to as Hanshu Phase Ⅱculture).
