【Abstract】 The Yi ethnic group value their names. Due to the direct influence of natural geographic environment,condition of livelihoods,customs and habits,psychological cognition and value orientation,the Yi ethnic group have formed a unique thinking on“original name”（本名）. Taking names by“Shengchen Suiwei”（生辰岁位）is the earliest naming method of the Yi ancestors,which can be traced back to the record of“Zhige Aru”（支格阿鲁）in the Yi Creation Epic. A baby’s“Shengchen Suiwei”（生辰岁位）is determined by th“eNiansuiwei”（年岁位）in“Shengchen Minggong Fangwei”（生辰命宫方位）at the exact time a mother gave birth to a baby. Taking names by“Shengchen Suiwei”（生辰岁位）is not only the most important and commonly used way of naming,but also the carrier for the Liangshan Yi ethnic group to understand the spatial orientation and to explain their destiny in life. This way of naming is still in use today and plays an important role in the naming of contemporary Liangshan Yi ethnic group.更多还原
