【Abstract】 Strauss’ s thoughts on liberal education mainly include three aspects: the crisis of liberal education, the way out to overcome the crisis of liberal education, and the essence of returning liberal education. These three aspects reflect the fundamental proposition of his free education thought: searching for the natural truth.Strauss’ s efforts are essentially a revival of Socratic philosophy. He always kept the right to be questioned by asking “what is natural right”. Liberal education is the pursuit of natural truth. Strauss strives to declare to us that human beings must strive upward in ignorance, constantly climbing up to the natural truth, otherwise, human beings will inevitably fall.
