【Abstract】 Combining the basic tenets of Marxism with China’s specific realities and excellent traditional culture is the path to open up and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics. From the perspectives of cosmology, worldview and morality, an integration of the basic tenets of Marxism and excellent traditional Chinese culture is the prerequisite for achieving “combination”. “Combination” requires “returning to the original and opening up a new era”, which means, on the basis of theory and civilized characteristics of inheriting the basic tenets of Marxism and the excellent traditional Chinese culture, we should create a new modern civilization that aligns with China’s specific realities and largely represents the direction of mankind’s future development by drawing on and integrating with each other. The “combination” has consolidated the historical, practical and cultural foundations of the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Only by correctly dealing with the “two combinations”, the soul of Marxism and the root of excellent traditional Chinese culture, and the relationship between “combination” and effective absorption of the achievements of other civilizations in the world, can we better consolidate the foundation of the path. “Combination” has opened up innovative space and played a powerful role in the path, theory and system of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
