中国特色词汇英译中译者主体性的实现路径研究——以《2022年政府工作报告》为例
A Case Study of Practitioners’ Subjectivity in C-E Translation of Words with Chinese Characteristics
【摘要】 富含中国特色词汇是政府工作报告在语言表达方面的重要特征,是中国特色话语体系的重要组成部分。研究以《2022年政府工作报告》为例证语料,把中国特色词汇分为三类:赋予时代感的中国特色词汇、反映中国特色的“数(量)词+中心词”型缩略词、传承中国传统的四字格词汇。据此,在保障译文可读性的前提下,提出了实现译者主体性的四条路径:通过直译处理易于读者产生联想和理解或接受度高的高频词;通过直译加注和增译手段,增补缺失语义;对源语与目的语存在较大语义差异的特色词汇,采用意译方法跨越理解鸿沟;特色词汇的语言结构存在较大差异时,转换其表达方式。译者主体性的凸显是有效解决翻译难题的主要途径,希冀以上路径能够为中国特色词汇的优质英译提供一定启示和借鉴。
【Abstract】 In terms of language expression, the government work report stands out for its abundant words with Chinese characteristics, which is also a crucial component of China’s discourse system with Chinese characteristics. The paper, taking “The Report on the Work of the Government 2022” as its sample source, classifies the words with Chinese characteristics into three categories: words that represent the features of the times, “number(quantifier)+head” abbreviations that reflect Chinese traits, and words with four characters that carry on Chinese tradition. Accordingly, it proposes four strategies to implement translators’ subjectivity under the premise of comprehensible and readable translation(1) literal translation deals with high-frequency or easily understandable and acceptable words;(2) literal-translation plus annotation and amplification supplement missing semantic connotation;(3) free translation helps readers understand much more easily the words whose meanings are sharply different between the source language and the target one;(4) formative conversion applied in case of the two languages differ significantly in structure. Highlighting the translator’s subjectivity is the chief way to break effectively through related obstacles in translation. It is hoped that the above-mentioned approaches can provide some inspiration and reference for the high-quality Chinese-English translation in similar tasks.
