【Abstract】 Adam Smith was the founder of classical political economy, which flourished during the peak of the British handicraft workshops in the mid-18th century. He was also a great representative of Scottish classical ethics. His greatest contribution to human civilization lies in establishing the doctrine of economic liberalism, and another contribution he made to human civilization is the elaboration of the "theory of appropriate virtue" in response to the needs of the times.
