【Abstract】 This essay investigates the “economic man” and the “abandoned life”in Ian McEwan’s novel Saturday, focusing on the conflict between the two characters and its metaphorical meanings. The essay maintains that the author reveals and critiques the shortcomings of neoliberal governance and consequent public cynicism through the image of the “economic man,” while exposing, through analyzing the conflict between neoliberal competition and capital operation, the intrinsic logic of the rise of terrorism.更多还原
