Effect of long-term low-dose ionizing radiation on liver and kidney function of radiologic staff in hospital
【Abstract】 Objective To explore the effect of long-term low-dose ionizing radiation on liver and kidney function of radiologic staff in hospital. Methods The medical staff who took an occupational health examination in our hospital from Jan to Apr 2021 were selected as the research objects, and divided into the radiation group(67radiologic staffs) and the control group(48 non-radiologic staff) according to the occupation. Biochemical indexes were collected and analyzed. Results There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups on liver and kidney function in different age and gender. In the radiation group, the level of γ-glutamyl transpeptidase(γ-GT),alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST), blood urea nitrogen(BUN) and creatinine(Cr) in male were obviously higher than those in female; the level of BUN in over 40 years old were higher than those in under 30 years old; the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). The levels of γ-GT and BUN increased over radiation exposure time. The radiation group was divided into three groups according to the occupation, the level of ALT, AST and Cr in the interventional radiation group were higher than those in radiologists or radiology nurse; the ALT and AST levels of radiologic technologists were higher than those in radiologists or radiology nurses. Conclusion Long-term low-dose ionizing radiation didn’t significantly affect the liver and kidney function of the radiologic staff in our hospital. Apparent effect of ionizing radiation were observed in staff who were engaged in interventional medicine, male, older or with long working life. The measure to protect against radiation should be trained for the staff and their health should be monitored.
