【Abstract】 This paper focuses on the function categories of the modifiers of English and Chinese nouns. Under a typological vision, the present paper reviews the previous studies from two aspects: the functions of modifiers as a whole and the function-order interactions of the modifier participants. In view of the problems and controversies, this paper presents the promising prospects from three aspects: research framework, research vantage point and research motivations, in an attempt to shed some light on the universal similarities and typological differences concerned.更多还原
