Changes and clinical significance of T lymphocyte subsets, natural killer cells, and B lymphocyte levels in children with β-thalassemia
【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the changes and clinical significance of T lymphocyte subsets, natural killer cells, and B lymphocytes in children with β-thalassemia. Methods A total of 84 children with β-thalassemia who were admitted to Shenzhen Bao’an District People’s Hospital from March 2017 to March 2020 were selected as the study group, and 84 healthy children during the same period were selected as the control group. The levels of T lymphocyte subsets(CD3~+cells, CD4~+cells, CD8~+cells, CD4~+/CD8~+ratio), NK cells, and B lymphocytes(CD19~+cells) were detected and compared between the two groups. Results The CD3~+cells, CD4~+cells, and CD4~+/CD8~+ratio of the children in the study group were(56.62±13.23)%,(32.05±7.72)%, 0.97±0.24, which were significantly lower than(69.55±17.22)%,(43.44±10.96)%, 1.79±0.45 of the control group; the level of CD8~+cells was(33.41±8.23)%, which was significantly higher than(24.34±6.27)% of the control group; the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). The NK cells level of the children in the study group was(13.33±3.26)%, which was significantly lower than(24.30±5.74)% of the control group; the level of CD19~+cells was(26.04±6.17)%, which was significantly higher than(12.46±3.08)% of the control group; the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion The levels of T lymphocyte subsets,NK cells, and B lymphocytes in children with β-thalassemia are significantly different from those in healthy children. To strengthen the detection of T lymphocyte subsets, NK cells, and B lymphocytes in clinical practice is beneficial to the diagnosis of the disease, the evaluation of immune status and targeted intervention treatment in children withβ-thalassemia.
