【Abstract】 The Sun family moved to Shouzhou in the early Ming dynasty. After several hundred years of development, it flourished with talented people coming out from generation to generation and gradually became the most influential family in local area. With a long and respectable family tradition characteristic in valuing morality and justice, together with poetry and rituals, the Shouzhou Sun family made great contributions to society in many aspects. By prioritizing education, the family gained fame through imperial examinations. In addition, the family accumulated large wealth by doing business, a large proportion of which was given back to society through their generous donation.
