【Abstract】 The essence of ideological and political education reflects the basic theoretical issues of ideological and political education. The research on the essence of ideological and political education is of great significance to the basic theoretical construction of ideological and political education. This paper summarizes the various development stages and characteristics of the research of the essence of ideological and political education,analyzes the consensus obtained in different development stages and the guidance formed by the controversial issues at different levels,and proposes that the Marxist theory and method should be used to differentiate the different guidance,and the essence of necessity should be used to guide practice.
