Source analysis of fertility preservation of male cancer patients in Guangdong
【Abstract】 Objective To analyze the source of fertility preservation of male cancer patients in Guangdong, and provide suggestions for expanding the fertility preservation service of male tumor patients in China′s human sperm bank. Methods Data of 252 male tumor patients with fertility preservation received from Human Sperm Bank, Guangdong Provincial Fertility Hospital from 2017 to 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. They were grouped by tumor type, regional origin, and hospital scale recommended for fertility preservation. Results Among 252 male tumor patients, lymphoma, testicular tumor, nasopharyngeal cancer, leukemia and intestinal cancer were dominant, accounting for 84.52%. The cases were mainly distributed in the Pearl River Delta region of Guangdong Province, with 84.92% in Guangzhou, and only 1.98% in other regions of Guangdong province. The hospitals recommended for fertility preservation mainly came from grade Ⅲ level-A affiliated tumor hospitals and grade Ⅲ level-A general hospitals, accounting for 48.41% and 46.03% respectively, and the rest 5.56% came from other hospitals, such as Grade Ⅱ levle-A hospitals or private hospitals. Conclusions The proportion of fertility preservation of male cancer patients in China is very low. We should strengthen the publicity of medical knowledge related to fertility preservation and improve the doctors′ cognition of fertility preservation; provide a fast way of fertility preservation and reduce certain preservation costs for patients with special economic difficulties, so as to maximize the proportion of fertility preservation of male tumor patients in China, so that more male tumor patients of childbearing age have their own biological children.
