【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the knowledge, attitude and practice(KAP) among the elderly inpatients to participate in the fall prevention and the influencing factors so as to provide a basis for developing a targeted fall prevention procedure. Methods A total of 205 hospitalised elderly patients from 9 hospitals in Guangdong Province were enrolled in the investigation with a self-designed general information questionnaire and inpatient KAP questionnaire for the purpose of investigation in a scale of fall prevention. Results The total score and score of each dimension in participation in the KAP fall prevention were 103.24 ±16.91, 32.90 ±7.04, 28.22 ±5.62 and 42.11±6.94, respectively. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that education, dysuria and use of a walking aid were the main influencing factors which affect the elderly inpatients to participate in the awareness of fall prevention( P<0.05). The use of a walking aid was the main influencing factor to affect the attitude towards the participation in the fall prevention( P <0.05). Gender and the use of a walking aid were the main influencing factors that affected the practice in participation in the fall prevention( P<0.05). Conclusions The KAP of the elderly inpatients to participate in fall prevention is at average and walking with a walking aid affects the KAP in participating in fall prevention. Further improvement of fall prevention is necessary.
