【Abstract】 Recollecting the idyllic small-town life in the past and presenting the desponding prospect of the urban life during the process of American urbanization,the play Our Town implies Thornton Wilder ’ s elegiac thoughts against urbanization in modern America. Wilder ’ s anti-urbanism thoughts,on the one hand,originate from his life experiences and his acute observation of the industrial civilization,and on the other hand,follow the prevailing writing trend of anti-urbanism in the American literary circle in the first three decades of the twentieth century. What’s more,Wilder ’ s anti-urbanism thoughts resonate with the attitude of anti-urbanism in modern Americans ’subconsciousness.
