Classical Digital Humanism——Towards Reconstruction of Human Spirit in an Age of Technoscience from Platonic Perspective
【Abstract】 Humanities and even traditional humanism are undergoing reconstruction in an age of digital technology, which has profound impacts on man’s knowledge of universe and his self-knowledge, and mutual determination of man and world as well, so the dramatic transformation it produced could be compared with the great revolution of Renaissance ages. For human beings today such technologies as digital, media, telecommunication, computation, algorithm and the like, are not merely instruments, but more significantly the culture itself. It could even be said that technique itself constitutes new biology, new organology, and new exosamtization. Digital humanities put mankind in the heart of technology, stresses on serendipity, and gives ethical priority of the space for the other. However, as a new mythology in the epoch of technology or Anthropocene, digital humanities could be a challenge to traditional aesthetics by raising a series of problems, the responding to which should trace back to classical, especially Platonic psychology, that is, a philosophical care for and cultivation of soul. Furthermore, by fusion of horizons between digital technology and humanism, the pursuit of digital humanism is to take the aesthetic redemption as its destiny, which includes overcoming the exhaustion of technological psychology by recuperation of the noetic soul, healing symbolic mercy by spiritualizing life, and correcting the stupidity of artificial intelligence by innovative and poetic thinking.
