Effects of Fluctuating Temperature and Photoperiod on Sex Differentiation and Reproduction of Neoseiulus californicus (Parasitiformes: Phytoseiidae)
【Abstract】 With Tetranychus cinnabarinus as the prey, sex differentiation and reproduction of Neoseiulus californicus were examined under combinations of 5 fluctuating temperatures(23?13, 26?16, 29?19, 32?22, and 35?25℃, temperatures in photophase/scotophase) and 3 photoperiods(14L:10D, 12L:12D, 10L:14D). A significant higher female rate(78.4%) was detected at the condition of 32?22℃ and 14L:10D. The second higher female rate(77.3%) was observed from the combination of 32?22℃ and 10L:14D. However, the highest fecundity(91.1 eggs/female) occurred in the combination of 32?22℃ and 10L:14D, which is significantly higher than that(43.55) in the combination of 32? 22℃ and 14L:10D. In conclusion, the combination of 32?22℃ and 10L:14D is most beneficial to the reproduction of N. californicus. This finding serves to support the mass breeding of N. californicus.
