【Abstract】 This paper discusses the morphemes involved in the sound discrimination of the finals of nouns in dialects of northern Henan province, and points out that the previously-called Z type sound discrimination may actually be a kind of er rhotacization. Supporting evidence can be seen from the differences between the Z type sound discrimination and the D type sound discrimination, the pronunciation of the word zhi-er 侄儿(nephew), the pronunciation of-er 儿 and-zi 子 in Henan dialects during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the nature of the lateral [l]. In addition, this paper proposes that the three strata of the er diminutive final in dialects of northern Henan province are the [o ou] layer, the [? ?] layer, and the [?] layer.更多还原
