【Abstract】 In the past nearly 70 years,the scientific research development of water resources protection for the Yangtze River Basin has undergone the stages from founding to perfection. This paper mainly reviews the development progress and major achievements in terms of water resources protection planning management,water environment monitoring technology, water quality investigation and evaluation, and environmental impact assessment of key hydropower projects,as well as water ecological protection theory and technology etc..
