【Abstract】 After the Meiji Restoration, the Japanese government carried out a series of bourgeois modernization reforms. With the implementation of the "Civilization" policy, a radical tide of Europeanization swept over Japan. On the basis of dialectically accepting and rationally criticizing western civilization, writers such as Rohan Koda, Ichiyo Higuchi and Soseki Natsume explored the traditional spirit through craftsman writing. In the context of tradition vs. Westernization, they explored the connection between the traditional spirit of Japan and the modern national spirit supporting the development of modernization.
