【摘要】 张之洞于19世纪末创办的湖北农务学堂,乃近代中国农业改良和农业教育开始发端的重要标志。农务学堂的筹创和发展经历了初期的困境和整顿后的改善两个阶段,而对于其筹创的初期阶段当前极少有文献和研究加以关注。张之洞创办农务学堂聘请的首位洋教习——美国人布里尔的相关档案,从亲历者的角度,帮助今人对于农务学堂筹创初期的相关史实和出现的问题有更多了解;并且为剖析这些问题产生的根本原因和评述张之洞的这一改良举措提供了更为客观的视角。更多还原

【Abstract】 Founded in the late 19 th century by CHANG Chi-Tung, Hubei Agricultural School is considered a milestone marking the beginning of China’s agricultural modernization as well as China’s modern agricultural education coming into being. The establishment and development of Hubei Agricultural School actually experienced two stages, including the initial predicament and the improvement after a reform, while there is little literature and research concerning or focusing on the former stage.CHANG Chi-Tung once employed a foreign instructor, Gerow D.Brill, from the United States for the establishment of Hubei Agricultural School.Being a witness of the first stage, Brill’s papers and archives may help people have more understanding of the historical facts and problems encountered by Hubei Agricultural School.Furthermore, they also provide a more objective perspective for people to analyze the root causes of the problems and to review CHANG Chi-Tung’s such effort of improvement.更多还原
