Research on Philosophy of Taiji From the Perspective of Traditional Chinese Culture
【Abstract】 This paper studies the development of Taiji’s philosophical history and finds out its relationship with other mainstream philosophical groups from the perspective of traditional Chinese culture by combing relative classics in the past. It discovered that the word "Taiji" first appeared in Zhuang Zi(《庄子》Chuang Tzu) and Yi Jing(《易经》The Book of Changes), first explained its philosophical concept. In the Qin and Han dynasties, philosophy of Taiji was explained through the theory of Original Qi, while in the Wei and Jin dynasties, people at that time advocated the theory that nothingness refers to the noumenon of everything in the universe. Subsequently, theory for Taiji philosophy became increasingly abundant in the Tang Dynasty and developed into pluralism in the Song and Jin dynasties. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, it involved the operational laws of celestial bodies and the philosophy of mind. In modern times, it focused on conclusion of cultural connotations. Taiji’s philosophy is based on Qi theory with yin and yang as its core, and the five elements as its property. Its direct expression is represented by Taiji diagram and is deeply influenced by Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism.
