Correlation between lower-extremity and carotid arterial diseases and cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the correlation between the lower-extremity and carotid arterial ultrasound diseases(CCVD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 338 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were recruited in this clinical trial. Baseline data were collected by questionnaire survey.Physical carotid arteries were conducted. The collected data were subject to cross-sectional analysis. Results Gamma correlation analysis showed a signi?cant association between the severity of lower-extremity and carotid arterial diseases(Gamma = 0.602, P < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that CCVD was signi?cantly associated with carotid arterial disease(OR = 2.58, 95%CI 1.13-5.89, P < 0.05) and lower-extremity arterial disease(OR = 5.34, 95%CI 2.34-12.17, P < 0.05) after adjusting the effects of age, course of disease and hypertension. Conclusions The lower-extremity arterial disease is correlated with the carotid arterial disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. The higher grade of the lower-extremity arterial disease, the higher grade of carotid arterial disease. Lower-extremity arterial diseases and carotid arterial diseases are both correlated with the incidence of CCVD.
