【摘要】 与享誉天下的狄考文相比,同时期的赫士受到的关注和研究显然不够。作为晚清来华的著名传教士和教育家,赫士在他生活在中国的62年里,协助狄考文经营登州文会馆,使登州文会馆成为享誉中外的中国第一所现代大学,为山东乃至中国的近代高等教育培养了一批难得的人才。编撰的二十多本西方科学教科书,为我国的近代高等教育提供了难得的教材。参与创办山东大学堂,为清末新政中各省立大学的创办提供了一个成功的样板。后期创办的齐鲁大学神学院和华北神学院,对山东乃至中国的基督教宗教教育做出了重要贡献。赫士对山东乃至中国近代高等教育发展的贡献,值得后人肯定和纪念。更多还原

【Abstract】 Compared with Calvin Wilson Mateer, who is well-known in the world, the attention and research of Watson Mcmillen Hayes in the same period is obviously insufficient. As a famous missionary and educator, Watson Mcmillen Hayes came to China in the late Qing Dynasty. In his 62 years of living in China, he assisted Mateer in running the Tengchow College, making the Tengchow College the first modern university in China which had cultivated a number of rare talents for modern Chinese higher education. More than 20 Western science textbooks have been compiled to provide valuable textbooks for modern higher education in China. Participated in the establishment of the Shandong University Hall, which provided a successful model for the establishment of provincial universities in the late Qing Dynasty. The Qilu University Theological Seminary and the North China Theological Seminary which he helped to found in the late period have made important contributions to the Christian religious education in Shandong and even China. The contribution of Hayes to the development of modern higher education in China is worthy of recognition and commemoration by future generations.更多还原
