【Abstract】 The ambition of western civilization history course is not to let students understand the major historical events,but to form a view of historical events. The essence of western civilization is democracy and science, capitalism and the modern state. By tracing the traces of historical development, we can grasp the process of the emergence, continuation and growth of democracy and science, capitalism and the modern state, and discover something worthy of our learning and reference.
