Unspeakable Traumatic Pain: Family Relationship in A Pale View of Hills and An Artist of the Floating World
【Abstract】 Different from other writers who describe the traumatic symptoms of war participants,Kazuo Ishiguro is good at describing the relationship between memory and war trauma. In his novels of A Pale View of Hills and An Artist of the Floating World,he deeply revealed the great disaster of war from the perspective of non-direct participants. In the seemingly calm recounting,he deeply described the era of war trauma and rapid change, which had led to the destruction of homes, the loss of kinship, and the inverted intergenerational relationship between adults and children. In the fierce wave of reconstruction after World War II,the main charactors regained their confidence and rebuilt their family relationships to varying degrees. In these two novels, the author uses the writing skills of avoiding narration and telling the story of the other to project the inner trauma of the wounded, which not only establishes his literary status, but also reflects his reflection on the war and his concern for the compassion of the victims of the trauma.
