【Abstract】 Fostering virtue and expertise through education is the fundamental task of higher education, the core of colleges and universities and therefore the historical mission that college English education must shoulder in the new era. To welcome the new era, and new challenges, the guiding ideology of English education in colleges and universities shall be reformed to match the theories of "foreign language education in China", "second language acquisition rooted in China, aimed at the world and serving the community of shared future for mankind", "national foreign language capabilities building" and "creative thinking cultivation".
